Shaft Type: D-Cut

The high temp Kraken is finally here. Designed by Omranello from Devil Designs, these motors were made for applications where high torque is needed. This motor has an internal ATC Semitec 104GT-2 thermistor to keep a close eye on those motor temperatures. Included is a 1 meter long wire for the motor and thermistor, the motor wires are terminated with a 4 pin JST-XH connector.

Understanding D-Cut vs. Round Shaft Stepper Motors

When selecting between D-cut and round shaft stepper motors, both have unique advantages, making each well-suited to specific 3D printer setups.

  1. D-Cut Shaft MotorsPopular and Easy to Use

    • Alignment-Friendly: The D-cut makes it easy to align set screws, providing a simple and user-friendly setup process.
    • Best For Light and Moderate Use: These motors excel in lighter applications where high torque and rapid directional changes aren’t a primary need. Perfect for builds that require steady, low-torque motion.
    • Maintenance Tip: We recommend using a locking compound (like Vibratite 125) on grub screws for added reliability, especially when used in lower-vibration settings.
  2. Round Shaft MotorsOptimal for Stability and Heavy Use

    • Double-Support Design: Round shafts offer added support at the end of the shaft, making them great for high-torque applications, frequent direction changes, and setups where extra stability counts.
    • Recommended for High-Performance Builds: If you’re working on a high-torque or high-precision setup, a round shaft motor can help maintain accuracy under more demanding conditions.
    • Maintenance Tip: Locking compound on grub screws will help ensure these motors stay securely fastened, even with repeated directional changes.

Both motor types are excellent choices for 3D printers, depending on your specific project needs. The D-cut shaft is user-friendly and reliable in lighter applications, while the round shaft offers robust support for high-torque demands.
